EMACS as an academic writing tool

After three years of taking notes exclusively on yellow legal pads with a Pelikan M200 fountain pen—notes on books, seminars, meetings, reviews of performances, late night ramblings and early morning inspiration—I finally came to terms with what was already blindingly obvious: no matter how much of my thinking and, hopefully, insight that might have been captured in three tote bags filled with the carefully indexed notepads (gathered up from their various bundles in and transported from Glasgow in March last year and now languishing beside my makeshift lockdown desk in Oxford) they were not going to be effortlessly transformed into my doctoral submission.
